At the beginning of the new year, a radio journalist named Bismillah Aimak was shot dead by assassins in Gore province of the country.

The attacks targeted Afghan human rights activists and government-backed forces. So far no local rebel group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Afghan security forces were unable to detain anyone involved.
