A minor improvised explosive device blast took place outside the Israeli embassy in the heart of central Delhi this evening, but there were no casualties or injuries, the police said.
“A very low intensity improvised device went off… No injury to any person was reported and nor was there any damage to property except the glass panes of three vehicles parked nearby,” Delhi Police Additional Public Relations Officer Anil Mittal said.
He said initial impressions suggest it could be a mischievous attempt to create a sensation, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The mirrors of two to three cars in the VVIP area were broken, the Delhi Police said in a statement.
The incident on the day when India and Israel marked the anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, took place about two kilometres away from the Beating Retreat ceremony going on at Rajpath, where top Indian leaders were attending the event.
CCTV cameras installed in the area were being checked and forensic experts of Delhi Police had reached the spot.❐
