At least 150 people have been killed by gun violence in more than 400 shootings during the 4th of July US Independence Day celebrations, reports US media CNN, citing the data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive, on Tuesday.
There were 400 shootings and casualties across the United States in the 72 hours from Friday to Sunday, local time.
The death toll rose to 150 on Tuesday, but the list is not yet completed. The agency said the death toll “could rise further”.
Police in several states has asked victims or their families to provide information on gun violence. Such incident of bloody clashes is rare in the United States amid the Independence Day celebrations.
Incidents of gun violence in New York have reached another height in recent times. There were 21 shootings from Friday to Sunday, killing at least 26 people. There were shootings in 12 places on the 4th of July Independence Day. 13 people have wounded in the incidents.
“Last year, 30 people were shot in 25 incidents,” said the country’s local police department. Of these, 13 people were shot in 12 incidents on July 4. Last year, 8 people were killed in 6 incidents on the same day. The incidents of gun shootings have reportedly increased in recent years.
The country’s police say violence has “risen by 40 percent” since the same period last year. And 885 people have been affected in 767 incidents.
