The no-confidence vote session was chaired by former Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
164 votes were cast against Imran in the no-confidence motion of the opposition. 162 votes were required to pass the resolution.
Imran Khan was the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan. With his downfall, not a single elected prime minister of the country was able to complete his term.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Imran Khan has left Islamabad.
After announcing the results, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq requested Shahbaz Sharif to give a speech.
“We were looking forward to seeing this new day,” said Shahbaz Kar. Thank God.
He said if the new government is formed, no revenge will be taken against the political opponents.
Imran’s no-confidence vote session was adjourned four times on Saturday (April 9).
The session of the National Assembly started at 10:30 am on that day. But before the no-confidence vote, the Speaker of the National Assembly temporarily adjourned the session due to a commotion in Parliament between Imran Khan’s supporters and opponents.
Two hours later, the session resumed. After the break of Zuhr prayers is given. When it starts again, the speaker goes to the break again. Later, Iftar and Esha prayers were interrupted in two rounds. It was supposed to start again at 9:30 pm but it was delayed.
The no-confidence vote began at 10 minutes before 12 noon on Saturday, Pakistan time.
On April 3, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Suri rejected the no-confidence motion. Later, on the advice of the Prime Minister, the President dissolved the National Assembly.
On that day, the Supreme Court held a hearing on the validity of the rejection of the no-confidence motion. After a five-day long hearing, the Supreme Court on Thursday (April 7th) rejected the no-confidence motion and ruled against dissolving the National Assembly. The Supreme Court also ordered a vote on the no-confidence motion on Saturday (April 9).
Pakistani media Dawn reports that National Assembly Speaker Asad Kaiser and Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri have resigned ahead of the no-confidence vote. They say they cannot take part in any foreign conspiracy to oust the Prime Minister.
Before resigning, they met at the PM’s residence. Earlier, Geo News reported that Speaker Kaiser had refused to allow the vote. Because he has a 30-year long relationship with Prime Minister Imran Khan. So he can’t betray her.
