Sri Lanka has intercepted a Moscow-bound passenger plane with about 200 passengers on board. It was intercepted on Thursday (June 2) shortly before returning to Moscow from Colombo, Russia.

The Aeroflot Airbus A-330 arrived in Colombo from Moscow on Wednesday (June 1), an official at Bandaranaike International Airport said. The flight was scheduled to leave Colombo for Moscow on Thursday, but was canceled by a Colombo commercial court.

Aeroflot, a Russian-based airline, suspended all international flights in March this year due to strict Western sanctions over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. However, they resumed operations in Colombo the following month.

It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. All the passengers and crew of the plane have been taken to the hotel, said the Bandarnayak Airport Authority.
