A woman has been arrested in Assam’s Dhubri district for alleged links with Bangladeshi banned outfit Ansarul Islam. Bilasipara sub-divisional police officer Birinchi Bora told reporters that Zahra Khatoon, whose husband Abu Tallah is also wanted for alleged links with the outfit, was arrested from Neralga Part II village on Sunday. Bora said she was trying to save people associated with Ansarul Islam.
“Two mobile phones were seized from him, of which one was burnt. We are trying to retrieve data from burned out phone. So far, we have gathered enough evidence from her interrogation and other phone calls to prove that she was in touch with the members of the organisation.
Khatoon was produced in a judicial magistrate’s court on Sunday, which sent him to judicial custody after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had recently busted five modules that had links with the Bangladesh-based terror outfit. has become the center of five months.
The first module was busted with the arrest of five people in Barpeta in March, since then over 30 people have been arrested with 11 in the months of March and April. Two people, including an imam who runs a madrasa, were arrested in July in Morigaon. Later the madrasa was demolished.
