Islamabad [Pakistan], December 15 (ANI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan got a huge relief from the Supreme Court of Pakistan after a petition seeking his disqualification from the Parliament was rejected by the top court.

However, the apex court disqualified PTI Secretary General Jahangir Tareen for life under article 62 (1) (f) of the constitution for not disclosing his off-shore company in nomination papers.

A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, announced the much-awaited verdicts, The Express Tribune reported.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hanif Abbasi had filed two petitions seeking disqualification of Khan and Tareen from Parliament over their alleged non-declaration of assets and ownership of offshore companies in nomination papers.

While delivering the verdict, the apex court also said it was the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan to scrutinise PTI’s foreign funding issue.

The top court further said Khan was not required to disclose accounts of his off-shore company as he was neither director nor shareholder of the firm.

Last month, Khan had said that he would quit politics if the Supreme Court disqualified him from Parliament. (ANI)
