New York, NY — August 17, 2025: Disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner has made a bold prediction regarding the upcoming New York City mayoral election, stating that Zohran Mamdani’s victory is “inevitable.”
Appearing on The Cats Roundtable, Weiner expressed confidence that top Democratic figures, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, will eventually endorse Mamdani, despite current hesitations.
Weiner attributes the delay in endorsements to political strategy, suggesting that Schumer and Jeffries are waiting to protect moderate Democrats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. He emphasized that party unity will ultimately lead to widespread support for Mamdani.
33-year-old progressive leader Zohran Mamdani recently surprised many by defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary. A recent Siena Institute poll shows Mamdani leading Cuomo by 19 points. Mamdani’s platform includes progressive policies such as a $30 minimum wage by 2030, rent freezes, and universal child care.
Despite his growing popularity, Mamdani faces challenges from centrist Democrats who have yet to endorse him. Weiner, who has a controversial past, criticized the Democratic Party’s leftward shift and raised concerns about progressives’ ability to govern effectively, citing experiences in cities like Chicago and San Francisco.
As the general election approaches, all eyes will be on Mamdani—whether he can unite the Democratic Party and maintain his lead over Cuomo and other independent candidates.
