Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Bangladesh Embassy in Washington D.C. Thursday organized the “Bangladesh Development Fair-2018” showcasing the country’s development successes in potentials sectors under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Fair projected the current government’s development efforts and spectacular achievements made so far in its journey towards making Bangladesh a middle income nation by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.
Three stalls were set up on the embassy premises by the commerce and economy, defense and consular wings, projecting Bangladesh as a role model for development among the foreign guests at the Fair.
Besides, videos were screened on the country’s 10 mega projects in the communications, power and energy sectors including Padma Bridge, Payra Deep Sea Port, Karnaphuli River Tunnel, Elevated Metrorail, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Rampal Thermal Power Plant, Matarbari Coal Fired Power Plant and Moheskhali LNG Terminal. Videos were also screened on nearly cent percent enrolment of school children and incredible women empowerment in the country.
Bangladesh lunched the Bangabandhu Satellite-1 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA on 11 May 2018. It is the first Bangladeshi geostationary communications and Broadcasting Satellite. Remarkable progress has been achieved in the ICT sector.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin welcomed the guests. In a statement, he highlighted the progress made in different fronts with rising trend in economic and social indicators. He said the recent growth trend has ranked Bangladesh among the five fastest global economy.
The country’s per capita GDP was US$ 1751 in 2017 with growth rate 7.86 percent, export US$ 37.4 billion, remittance US$ 15 billion and forex reserve US$ 33 billion during the period.
The Ambassador referred to HSBC’s recent study that predicted Bangladesh would be the 26th largest economy by 2030 while UK based PricewaterhouseCoopers predicted the country would be among three fastest economies of the world by the same period.
He said Bangladesh’s development progress is sustained, which has been reflected in the recent UN determination that the country is eligible to graduate from the LDC status.
Diplomats from different embassies, senior officials of the World Bank, IMF, US State Department, Pentagon, defense attachés, former ambassadors, businessmen, leading members of intelligentsia and Bangladeshi diaspora largely attended the Fair.
A brief cultural show was presented by Bangladeshi-American artists. Ms. Samia Israt Ronee, Counsellor (Political-111) conducted the program.
