Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Democratic Candidate for Congressional District 14 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez met the President of Local 1407, Treasurer of DC 37 and the National President of the Alliance Of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) in his DIstrict Council 37 Office in downtown Manhattan.
For over an hour they discussed many issues including the “single-payer healthcare”, an issue she has used in her congressional campaign and wish to establish such a healthcare plan in the future in the congress! President Uddin explained the part of the “single-payer healthcare” plan that he opposes with other labor leaders related to premium paid by the Employer where in most cases employees get free health insurance with only co-payments!
If single-payer Healthcare is to pass it must have escape clause for employees, like DC 37 members, who don’t pay any portion of Health Insurance premium now earning a suppressed minimum salary! Ms. Alexandria made notes of the discussion for her future reference!
Talked about grass roots movement, diversity in political arenas, community outreach, and working with labor unions in creating a better America for all!
She heard about ASAAL and knows the work we do from New York to Michigan from New Jersey to Georgia. She was very impressed with our grass roots work from Queens to Staten Island and from the Bronx to Albany and will be working with ASAAL, especially with the Bronx and Queens Chapters as they are in her congressional district, in the coming days and months!
Ms. Alexandria joined as a honorary member of ASAAL and on schedule to join us at our 11th Annual Convention to be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018. We believe with her leadership one day we can have a ASAAL Caucus in the US House of Representatives!
President Uddin stared that, “our community is new, growing, and active; we have many problems but solutions are few; we are looking for you to help our community, add our issues in your agenda; what you bring for your Congressional District we should fell the improvement you are making, make us involved, make us partner; we will help you in kind with our energy and time!”
We urge all ASAAL members, friends, families, and supporters to VOTE her and all our endorsed candidates on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm to help make a difference in our lives and in our community!
