Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council on Saturday (December 22) announced that the movie tickets which cost up Rs 100 will now attract GST at the rate of 12 per cent, instead of the earlier 18 per cent. For the movie tickets which cost above Rs 100, the GST rate has been reduced to 18 per cent from the earlier 28 per cent. Bollywood celebs including Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar have lauded the move taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Central government.

The first film to reap the benefits of the revised GST rate is Rohit Shetty’s ‘Simmba’. The action drama starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan will release on December 28 and movie buffs are eagerly wait for the film to hit the silver screens.

The revised GST slab will be applicable from January 1, 2019 and movie lovers will have to shell out less for the film’s ticket. The ticket prices will come down by an average of Rs 25-40.

Talking about ‘Simmba’, the film will see Ranveer in the role of ACP Sangram Simmba Bhalera. Sara, who made her Bollywood debut with ‘Kedarnath’ opposite Sushant Singh Rajput, plays his love interest in the film. The ‘Befikre’ actor has also hailed government’s move to reduce the GST rates.

And hey, did you know…. there’s been a revision of the GST slab on Cinema Ticket price !!!
12% for ticket rate below 100
