New York City, August 9, 2025: A late-night shooting in New York’s iconic Times Square left three people wounded and led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male suspect, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).
Police said the incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. near West 44th Street and Seventh Avenue following a verbal dispute between individuals. Shots were fired, striking three victims: an 18-year-old woman wounded in the shoulder, a 19-year-old man shot in the leg, and a 65-year-old man also injured in the leg.
All three victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. Authorities confirmed that an arrest was made at the scene and a firearm was recovered, though no formal charges had been filed as of Saturday morning.
Social media videos show crowds fleeing in panic as the sound of gunfire rang out. Several NYPD units rushed to the scene, securing the area and assisting the injured.
This shooting comes at a time when gun violence in New York City has dropped by 23% in 2025 compared to last year, despite strict firearm laws. Times Square is designated as a “gun-free zone,” making the incident particularly alarming.
The investigation is ongoing, and police officials are expected to release further updates as they gather more details.
