New York: A heartfelt and dignified community vigil was recently held in New York in memory of NYPD Detective Didarul Islam—a proud son of the Bangladeshi-American community, whose courage, compassion, and dedication left an indelible mark on this city.
The vigil was organized by BHALO, a community service organization, in collaboration with Bangladesh Society Inc. and Jamaica Bangladesh Friends Society.
The event honored Detective Didarul’s bravery, humanity, and sense of duty. His ultimate sacrifice was recognized by speakers as not just a loss for law enforcement, but a moment of pride and reflection for the entire Bangladeshi diaspora in the U.S. The program began with a moment of silence and prayer for his departed soul.

Their speeches reflected on Detective Didarul’s unwavering commitment to duty and community.
“Officer Didarul was not just a police officer—he was a selfless human warrior dedicated to this city,” said one speaker.
From Bangladesh Society Inc.:
“Detective Didarul Islam was a source of pride for our community. He was a selfless public servant whose legacy will inspire future generations.”
They added,
“The Bangladesh Society will always stand by and honor individuals like him, who lead with compassion and sacrifice.”
Presence of the Bangladeshi American Police Association (BAPA):
Both current and former presidents of BAPA were in attendance and delivered emotional tributes.
“Detective Didarul was one of us,” said a BAPA leader.
“He was a symbol of strength and humility. His loss is not just ours—it is a historical moment of sacrifice for the broader Bangladeshi-American community.”

The vigil was attended by people across generations and professions. It was not only a tribute to a fallen officer, but a powerful expression of unity, love, and collective gratitude from the Bangladeshi-American community.
