Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: The rise of Virat Kohli in Australia is no less than an inspirational movie. He may have been termed ‘KING’ by the Australian media but the journey to excellence began with a lot of bumps — A terrible start in the 2011-12 tour and then a magnificent outing in the next visit with 692 runs in 8 innings at an average of 86.5 including four hundreds and one fifty.

This 7-year long tale is now going to have a new chapter and the most decorated one. The Indian skipper is all set to surpass legendary Don Bradman and rule the land of Kangaroos.

The Indian skipper is just eight runs away from becoming the fastest batsman to score 1000 Test runs on the Australian soil. So far, the right-handed batsman has amassed 992 runs in 8 Tests in Australia including five tons and two half-centuries. His average of 62 in Australia is his best in any country outside India barring New Zealand.

Moreover, he will be the fifth batsman after Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag to score 1,000 runs in Australia

An eye on Sachin Tendulkar’s record

In the past few months, Virat has gone past several humongous records set by former Indian batting legend, Sachin Tendulkar. Continuing the trend, the 30-year old is eyeing to smash Sachin’s record for most Test centuries by an Indian batsman. Sachin has 6 in his name while Virat has hit 5.

And the way Virat is heading in his career currently, he is surely unstoppable.

Most runs away as a skipper

Virat has 1987 runs in away Tests as a skipper. He is 13 runs away from completing 2,000 Test runs in away matches as skipper. No other Indian captain has achieved this feat.
