Iranian dissident journalist Ruhullah Jam has been executed. The news was confirmed by almost all Iranian media outlets, including the state-run IRNA news agency and the semi-official Noor News Agency. Jam’s death sentence was carried out on Saturday morning, they said.
Ruhullah was forced to live in exile outside Iran for some time. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested Jam in 2019 on charges of conducting anti-Iranian propaganda in collaboration with France, Israel and other Western countries. Complaining against him, he announced the ‘collapse of Iran’ through the messaging app ‘Telegram’ and his own ‘Amad News’.
Ruhullah was charged with ‘corruption on earth’ at the time. Such allegations are usually made against people who are involved in spying or trying to overthrow the Iranian government. Ruhullah was convicted on the charge. Earlier this week, Iran’s Supreme Court announced his death sentence.
A report by the semi-official Isna news agency on Saturday said that the office of the Revolutionary Prosecutor in Tehran had announced the execution of Ruhullah. The international community has condemned the execution of the 46-year-old Iranian journalist.❐
