New York, July 20, 2025— A man armed with a knife was killed Saturday night after he allegedly slashed another man inside a Brooklyn subway station — only to have the victim wrestle the blade away and fatally stab him, police said.

The incident unfolded just before 11 p.m. at the Broadway Junction station in East New York. According to the NYPD, a 37-year-old man approached a 42-year-old man on the platform and slashed him in the arm during an apparent dispute.

But the older man fought back, managing to grab the knife from his attacker and stab him multiple times in the torso, police said.

The 37-year-old suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital. The 42-year-old victim was taken to the same hospital in stable condition with a laceration to his arm.

Authorities said it was unclear what sparked the altercation. Investigators recovered the knife at the scene, and no charges have yet been filed as the case remains under investigation.

Broadway Junction — a major transfer hub in Brooklyn — remained partially closed overnight as police cordoned off the platform to collect evidence and interview witnesses.

The incident marks the latest in a series of violent encounters in the city’s subway system, which has seen an uptick in reported assaults this summer despite increased police presence underground.
