Madhya Pradesh polls: Congress releases election manifesto; Check top promises

Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls 2018: Ahead of the much crucial Assembly polls scheduled to take place later this month, Congress party has released its election manifesto for Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. While announcing the media – which it calls the ‘Vachan Patra’ – senior party leader Kamal Nath told media that it is a historic day for Madhya Pradesh as we are not announcing a manifesto but a ‘Vachan Patra’ (Promise letter). “Today every section of Madhya Pradesh is troubled and we have made this vachan patra after discussing the issues with everyone,” he said.

Further taking a jibe at the incumbent Shivraj Singh Chauhan-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, Kamal Nath said the ruling party has announced ‘Jumla’ in the name of the manifesto and have fooled the people of the state for 15 long years. The announcement was made in the presence of other bigwigs of the party including Jyotiraditya Scindia, Digvijay Singh, Priyanka Chaturvedi and others.

Here are the top highlights of Congress’ election manifesto for the forthcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly election 2018:

1. We will form a public commission in the state: Kamal Nath said while announcing the election manifesto.

2. Nath claimed that if Congress comes to power in Madhya Pradesh, it will take immediate measures to eradicate corruption from villages and fight mafia raj in the state.

3. The senior Congress leader also stated that a separate committee will be set up comprising journalists and reputed lawyers who will let people how they have been looted by the BJP over the past 15 years.

4. We will reduce the electricity bill of farmers by 50 per cent, Nath said while adding that the party will reduce diesel and petrol prices in the state.

5. Congress will also open ‘Gaushalas’ in every Gram Panchayat among other things mentioned in our election manifesto: Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief said while announcing the manifesto in Bhopal.

6. Congress also said that a grant of Rs 2.5 lakh and 450 sq ft plot will be provided to those who are homeless.

7. If it comes into power, Congress will waive off farm loans to provide relief to the farmers.

8. Kamal Nath also announced that electricity bills of the farmers will also be reduced to half.

9. Congress leader also promised that the party will increase investment in the state to help generate employment opportunities. Nath declared that the Samajik Suraksha Pension will be increased from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000.

10. Kamal Nath also said that Congress will give an aid of Rs 51,000 for the marriage of girl child in the state. Also, loans will be waived off for women self-help groups.

Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh is scheduled to take place in a single phase on November 28 and results will be declared on December 11. The tenure of current Assembly expires on January 7 next year.
