Several parts of Mumbai faced power outages yet again after a transmission line tripped on Monday. The outages were reported from the city’s western suburbs.

Khar, Kurla, Santacruz and Mumbai’s posh Bandra locality were among the areas which were hit by the outages.

With the city sweltering under soaring temperatures, the power cuts saw people flooding Twitter with angry messages.

Several residents of Chembur area also complained of power cuts.

A technical fault at Tata’s receiving station in Dharavi was said to be the reason behind the outages.

Tata Power, in a statement, said it was a short power cut, only for around seven minutes.

“There was an incident of power tripping today for a very short time (around 7-minutes) due to tripping of 220kV MSETCL OLTS protection at their Trombay Receiving Station, giving shutdown to 160MW load at Tata Power’s Dharavi Receiving Station. However, the power supply was quickly restored by Tata Power. The power tripping happened at 2130 hrs and it was restored at 2137 hrs today i.e. 9th May 2022,” read the statement.

This comes just two weeks after the city’s suburbs and surrounding areas saw a blackout for over an hour.

India saw its worst electricity shortage last month in more than six years amid scorching temperatures with the leap in power demand left the country scrambling for coal, the dominant fuel used in electricity generation in the country.
