Governor Hochul Declares State of Emergency; Mayor Adams Urges Public to Stay Safe

New York, August 1, 2025: Intense rainfall and storms over the past several hours have caused severe flooding across key roads in Queens, New York City. Particularly, the Clearview Expressway and several other highways in Queens have been inundated with rising floodwaters, trapping a semi-truck along with dozens of cars, buses, and other vehicles, disrupting the city’s vital transportation network.

Due to the rapidly rising water levels, traffic came to a complete standstill on multiple routes. Emergency responders have been working urgently to rescue stranded drivers and passengers, though high water levels have complicated and delayed rescue efforts.

In response to the escalating crisis, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency, emphasizing that public safety remains the highest priority. “We are taking every necessary step to ensure the swift rescue and aid of those affected by this flooding,” the governor said.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams also announced emergency measures to address the situation and urged residents to remain indoors and stay safe. “We are mobilizing all resources and personnel to handle this crisis and protect our communities,” the mayor stated.

Meteorologists warn that heavy rain is expected to continue in the coming days, raising concerns over worsening flood conditions. Authorities have advised heightened caution and preparedness throughout the city.

City and state agencies are providing regular updates and safety instructions to the public. The flooding has forced temporary closures of schools, offices, and businesses, with many residents remaining homebound.

Rescue teams are risking challenging conditions to transport stranded individuals to safe locations. Both Governor Hochul and Mayor Adams have pledged to bring the flooding under control as quickly as possible.

New Yorkers await relief from this devastating flood and commend the ongoing efforts of emergency responders and officials working tirelessly to manage the crisis.
