With the initiative and financial support of the New York-based organization Shah Foundation, the winter garments were distributed among those in need in Gaibandha. The two-day event from February 7-8 were overseen by the Bangladesh Khetmajur Samiti, Gaibandha, Palashbari Upazila and Bangladesh Youth Union Gaibandha Branch.
Founder Mr Shah J Choudhury told Ruposhi Bangla that, sweaters and blankets were distributed among 200 destitute people in Kamarjani Union and Sundarganj upazila, and in Merirhat, Palashbari upazila, Gaibandha.
Poet and Bachik artist Debashish Das Debu, teacher and folk music artist Ranjit Sarkar, general secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad district branch Riktu Prasad, Khetmajur Samiti district member Pratibha Sarkar Bobby, Communist Party of Bangladesh Sundarganj upazila president Abu Bakkar, lecturer Sujan Kumar Barman, Youth Union district member Emdad and others delivered their speeches on the first day of the distribution.
The next day, on 8 February, winter clothes were distributed to poor farmers and farm laborers in Merirhat. Gaibandha Udichi District President Principal Zahurul Qayum was the chief guest at the event. Cultural activist and Bachik artist Shirin Akhter, Central Youth Union leader Pratibha Sarkar Bobby, Palashbari Upazila Khetmajur Samiti leader Abdullah Adil Nannu, Yadul Islam, Saju Master, Abbas Ali and others spoke on the occasion.
All thanked the Shah Foundation. Pratibha Sarkar Bobby said that only one piece of winter cloth is enough for a poor person. Long live the Shah Foundation.
