On the evening of June 10, the vibrant halls of Queen’s Palace in Queens lit up with admiration, unity, and community spirit as dozens of Bangladeshi-American organizations came together to honor Shah Nawaz, the newly elected Second Vice District Governor of Lions Club International, District 20-R2.

The event wasn’t just a celebration—it was a collective expression of gratitude, trust, and hope in a leader whose lifelong dedication to service has made a lasting mark on the immigrant and diaspora communities of New York.

A Leader Beyond Titles

Shah Nawaz has long been a respected figure in the community, known for his consistent advocacy in immigrant rights, youth leadership, humanitarian aid, and neighborhood unity. His election to this distinguished position is seen not merely as a personal milestone, but as a community victory.

Over 50 organizations joined the celebration, presenting bouquets, words of thanks, and heartfelt tributes that reflected how deeply Nawaz’s leadership has touched lives.

From civic leaders to nonprofit heads, everyone in the room echoed one truth—leadership is not about titles, it’s about action.

“This Honor Belongs to Us All”

In his speech, Shah Nawaz humbly shared,

“Leadership is about walking with people, not ahead of them. I don’t want anyone to be left behind. This honor belongs not just to me, but to all of you who stood beside me.”

He emphasized the importance of inclusive growth, intergenerational involvement, and the need to inspire young people to take ownership of their communities.

Throughout the evening, speakers praised Nawaz as a bridge-builder, someone who connects diverse voices with a shared vision of progress.

An Evening of Unity and Inspiration

The celebration was rich with energy—floral tributes, moving speeches, performances, and countless photo moments captured the warmth and pride felt across the room.

But beyond the spotlight and cameras, what stood out most was the sincerity of community love—a collective belief that Shah Nawaz represents something larger than a single role: he is a symbol of servant leadership.

A Path Forward

As South Asian leadership continues to grow in New York’s civic landscape, Shah Nawaz’s journey marks a significant chapter—not just in the Lions Club, but in the evolving identity of immigrant-led leadership in America.

And as June 10 proved—one afternoon, one gathering, one leader—can ignite unity in the hearts of many.
