A teacher’s aide who has been shunned by her own children for having sex with a teenage boy at school will be eligible for parole in less than two years.
Nicole Woods, 55, has been sentenced to four years and two months in jail after pleading guilty to preying on the boy who she got to know in an English class at Staughton College in Melbourne’s west.
Judge George Georgiou told the Victorian County Court that her admissions came only moments before her victim, who was between 15 and 16 at the time of the offending, was set to testify at a special hearing.
The court heard that after being caught, Woods tried to justify her actions and said the boy, “didn’t look like a five-year-old”.
She also told a court-appointed psychiatrist that the boy had propositioned her, and that she believed he was able to consent.
“It defies belief that you could hold such a view,” Judge Georgiou said.
“You were significantly older than the victim and you took advantage of him.
“I doubt that you fully appreciate the enormity of your offending or accept full responsibility for it.”
The County Court also heard that Woods’s offending has also had a severe impact on her own family, including her two sons who now have no contact with her.
“You expressed a belief that your own children won’t forgive you,” Judge Georgiou said.
She has also not spoken with her elderly mother since she was remanded in custody.❑
