Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Tigresses did well to restrict defending champions West Indies to 106 for 8 at Guyana National Stadium but crumbled to the lowest ever score in Women’s World T20 as they were bowled out for just 46 — their third lowest score, to lose by 60 runs.

The preparations prior to the World T20 tournament had gone well for Salma Khatun’s team but nothing prepared them for West Indies’s fiery pacer Deandra Dottin, who only saw the wickets behind the Bangladesh batters. Fargana Hoque, Nigar Sultana, Rumana Ahmed, Lata Mondal and Salma Khatun all fell in Dottin’s fiery spell as she finished with astonishing figures of 3.4 overs bowled, 5 runs conceded and 5 wickets taken — third-best figures ever recorded in women’s T20Is.

Four years ago in the Women’s World T20, Bangladesh had crumbled to 58 for 9 against England, which held the record for the previous lowest score in the tournament. The 46 all-out today broke that record but when Bangladesh were bowling, things looked really promising for the Tigresses as bowlers immediately applied the pressure on West Indies. Jahanara Alam, the pacer, took two in two balls to send back both openers. The hosts were struggling at 50 for 5 when a handy 24-ball 32 from Kycia Knight helped them reach 106 for 8. Jahanara finished with three wickets while Rumana Ahmed picked up two wickets for 16 runs.

The energy Bangladesh showed while bowling dissipated once they came out to bat. None of batters reached double figures as Dottin’s spell caused massive destruction.
