Two young men were fatally shot late Tuesday night in the parking lot of Ferry Point Park in the Bronx, sending shockwaves through the local community and raising renewed concerns about public safety.
According to the NYPD, the shooting occurred around 11:00 PM. Officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire and found two male victims lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. Emergency responders pronounced one of the victims dead at the scene. The other was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released, but both were believed to be in their late teens or early twenties.
Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area and speaking with potential witnesses. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday morning, and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
“This is a tragic incident,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “We are doing everything we can to identify and apprehend those responsible.”
Local residents expressed alarm following the shooting. “It’s terrifying,” said one parent who frequents the park with their children. “We’re scared to even come here now.”
The incident adds to a growing list of youth-involved violence in New York City in recent months, posing serious challenges for law enforcement and community leaders alike.
The investigation is ongoing.
