Youth Akali Dal leader Vikramjit Singh Middukhera was shot dead by four men in broad daylight in Mohali area of Punjab on Saturday.

Police said the incident took place in Sector 71 of Mohali when Vikramjit, alias Vicky Middukhera, was at a property dealer’s office in the area on Saturday morning. As per reports, Vicky arrived in Mataur market and was about to sit in his white SUV when he was attacked.

The Youth Akali Dal leader reportedly ran half a kilometre after two of the attackers opened fire at him. He collapsed outside the Community Centre in Sector 71.

Four masked men allegedly fired around 15 bullets at the student leader and fled the spot, police said. The incident has been caught on CCTV camera.

The police said they are scanning the CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the identity of the accused.

Following the incident, SSP Satinder Singh, the DSP and Mataur SP rushed to the spot. The initial probe into the daylight murder revealed that Vicky Middukhera had a licenced revolver in his car but did not get a chance to grab it.

Police said the body was sent for a post-mortem and the car taken in custody. Probe is on.

Vicky Middukhera was former president of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU), Panjab University, Chandigarh.

He joined the SAD’s student wing Student Organisation of India (SOI). His brother Ajay Middukhera had contested the recent municipal election against the son of former Mohali mayor Kulwant Singh.
