Zahan Ara Dolon: Winter blankets, Iftar boxes, and masks have been distributed at a commemoration event held on the occasion of the second death anniversary of the President of Bangladesh Society, Kamal Ahmed, in New York.
On the afternoon of April 5, Moinul Islam from Mega Home Reality and Shah J Choudhury, founder of Shah Group, hosted the commemorative meeting in Jackson Heights.
On the occasion, MA Aziz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bangladesh Society, Abdur Rahim Hawlader, Acting President of Bangladesh Society, Fahad Solaiman, General Secretary of JBBA, Rofia Ahmed and Romena Ahmed, children of Kamal Ahmed, spoke on the occasion. Fakhrul Islam Delwar, President of the Jamaican Friends Society, anchored the event.
Welcoming the gathering, Moinul Islam said, “We are organizing this event to remember the immense contribution of Kamal Ahmed in building the Bengali community in New York.”
Kamal Ahmed’s children, Rofia Ahmed and Romana Ahmed, thanked Shah J Choudhury and Moinul Islam for organizing the memorial service and said, “Our father always worked for the welfare of the people and loved the people.”
Others in the meeting said that Kamal Ahmed was an organizer of modern and progressive thought. Under his leadership, Bangladesh Society has done a lot of welfare work. They also added that the death of Kamal Ahmed has caused irreparable damage to the community.
Imam Kazi Qayum led prayers for Kamal Ahmad’s soul. Then, Kamal Ahmed’s two children distributed winter clothes and Iftar boxes.
AKM Fazlul Haque, President of New Hawk & Sons, Shah J Choudhury, CEO of Shah Group, Farzana Choudhury, and Riju Mohammad of Bangladesh Society, Z Alam Nami of JBBA, Hossain Mohammad Dipu, and others were present at the event.
Kamal Ahmed passed away in 2020 during treatment at Elmhurst Hospital in New York.
