Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: The governing body of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College today suspended the three accused teachers over the suicide of class nine student Aritry Adhikary.
The move came after the education ministry asked the governing body to suspend the three teachers including acting principal Nazneen Ferdous.
The two other teachers are shift-in-charge of morning shift Zinat Akhtar and class teacher Hasna Hena.
Chairman of the governing body Golam Ashraf Talukder confirmed the news to HindustanSurkhiyan.
The body also rescheduled the suspended exams of today and tomorrow to December 7 and 11 respectively, the governing body member Mustari Sultana said.
Earlier in the day, the ministry sent letters to Rab and police urging to take legal steps against three teachers of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College over suicide of a class nine student.
The letters were sent to the director general of Rab and DMP commissioner this afternoon. The ministry also sent letters to the chairman of Dhaka Education Board and director general of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education seeking departmental action and suspension of their wages respectively.
The Daily Star has obtained the copies of the letters.
The ministry has also decided to cancel the teachers’ MPOs, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said while addressing a press briefing at his secretariat office today.
The minister was briefing the media about the investigation report of the ministry’s three-member probe committee headed by Prof Yusuf, director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.
WHAT WERE THE FINDINGS OF THE PROBE COMMITTEE?
Nahid said the three teachers has behaved mercilessly with the parents of Aritry. “So, it is clear to the probe committee that she had to choose the path of killing herself after not being able to tolerate the disrespect done to her parents,” the minister said.
So, those three teachers cannot avoid the liability, he added.
Departmental action will be taken against all the three teachers, Nahid said.
Besides, many other irregularities of the institution has also been uncovered, he further said.
WHAT HAPPENED TO ARITRY ADHIKARY?
Aritry Adhikary, a ninth grader, was found hanging from the ceiling of her home in the capital’s Shantinagar on Monday (December 3) hours after she and her parents were allegedly insulted by some teachers of the school.
The death and the subsequent agitation, joined by parents, rocked the 66-year-old institute and prompted the education ministry and the school authorities to form two separate probe committees.
Besides, the High Court directed the education secretary to form another five-member committee headed by an additional secretary of the ministry to look into the matter.
WHO HAVE BEEN MADE ACCUSED?
Around 8:00pm yesterday, Aritry’s father Dilip filed a case with Paltan Police Station accusing Nazneen, Zinat and Aritry’s class teacher Hasna Hena of provoking the suicide.
FAMILY SHATTERED
Holding the certificates of his daughter close to his chest, Dilip cried the entire time while talking to The Daily Star yesterday.
“My daughter knew seven different languages and got an award from British Council as best book reader,” he said, adding Aritry had secured GPA-5 in her Primary Education Completion Examination and Junior School Certificate examinations in 2014 and 2017.
“I pleaded with them to give my daughter a second chance. Aritry even tried to hold the teachers’ leg,” he said.
