Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk:In a major road mishap at least 48 people have been reported dead in Uttarakhand’s Pauri-Garhwal, as a 28-seater-bus fell into a gorge in Nanidhanda area on Sunday morning. As per the information received from district control room, Pauri, a bus carrying 45-50 people met an accident at 8:45 am in Dhumakot in Nainidanda block.

Bodies of 42 passengers were reportedly recovered from the spot. Those who were injured were rushed to the primary health center in Dhumakot, where 2 succumbed to the injuries during treatment.

The bus was travelling from Bhaunkot to Ramnagar when the mishap took place as it skidded off the road and fell into 60 metre deep gorge. SDRF & other agencies have been set to the spot to carry out rescue and relief operations.

As per the report, Uttarakhand CM TS Rawat has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the dead. He also said the treatment of injured will be taken care of by the government. Appropriate compensation will also be given to the injured, he added. A magisterial inquiry into the matter has been ordered, the CM further said.

Condoling the deaths of the victim, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote that he is extremely saddened by the bus accident and assured that authorities are providing all possible assistance at the accident site. “Extremely saddened by the bus accident in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray that those injured recover at the earliest. Rescue operations are underway and authorities are providing all possible assistance at the accident site,” PM wrote.
