Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk:The 48th Independence and National Day was celebrated amid patriotic zeal, pride and enthusiasm at Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C. Monday taking fresh vow to build the nation as golden Bangladesh dreamt by father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and millions of martyrs.

Rich tributes were paid to the 1971 Liberation War martyrs and architect of the independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

This year’s celebration bears special significance as UNESCO recognized the historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu as a world documentary heritage and Bangladesh’s meeting the criteria to become a developing nation.

The two-day celebration began with the hoisting of national flag by Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin with the playing of national anthem.  Officers and employees of the embassy attended the flag hoisting ceremony in the morning.

The Ambassador along with the officers and employees placed wreath at the bust of the father of the nation on the chancery premises.

In his brief remarks, he called for work unitedly for the welfare and development of the nation under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Later, messages of the Hon’ble President Abdul Hamid, Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Hon’ble Foreign Minister A.H. Mahmood Ali and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam were read out. Deputy Chief of the Mission Mahbub Hassan Saleh, Defense Attaché Brig. Gen. Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, Minister (press) Shamim Ahmad and Counsellor (political-1) Md. Nural Islam read out the messages respectively.

A special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for the martyred freedom fighters and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and members of his family slain on August 15, 1975.

Counsellor (political II and HOC) Dewan Ashraf conducted the program. The embassy will host Independence Day reception on March 28.
