The decapitated and dismembered body of Fahim Saleh, co-founder of ride-sharing venture Pathao, has been recovered in the United State’s New York. An electric saw was found lying next to the remains. It has been initially thought that Fahim’s head, arms and legs were separated from his body by the electric saw.
Police recovered his dismembered body from his apartment in New York’s Manhattan around 3:30 pm (local time) on Tuesday.
Citing New York police, local media Daily News reported that police first came to know about the murder through a phone call on helpline 911. On information, members of the New York Police Department (NYPD) rushed to the building on E. Houston St. at Suffolk St. in the Lower East side. Fahim’s apartment is on the seventh floor of this condominium building.
“We’ve found a mutilated body,” said Sergeant Carlos Nives, an NYPD police spokesman, adding that head, two arms, two legs – all were separated from the body. But everything was lying on the spot. The motive behind the murder could not be known immediately.
CCTV video footage of the condominium building shows Fahim last entered his apartment at 1:40 pm on Monday. When he got into the elevator to go to the seventh floor from ground floor, another person got on the elevator, dressed in a suit, wearing gloves, a hat and a mask over his face.
The video also shows Fahim looking at the stranger with suspicion. The second man then goes to the seventh floor with Fahim and as soon as Fahim opens the door of his apartment, the man attacks him and pushes him into the apartment.
The police initially suspect that the murder was carried out by a professional.
Born in 1986, Fahim studied information systems at Bentley University in the United States. He used to live in Manhattan, New York. Fahim also owned two more ride-sharing app companies in Nigeria and Colombia. Fahim bought the apartment, where his body was found, for $2.25 million last year. ❑
