Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk:Four alleged criminals, including three drug peddlers, were killed in separate “gunfights” with law enforcers in Jessore and Mymensingh early today.
In Jessore, Abul Kalam, 46, Milon Kasari, 39, and Habibur Rahman, 36, were killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Abhaynagar upazila around 3:00am.
Rab members identified the deceased as drug peddlers, who are all from Noapara village in the upazila, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting a Rab official.
A team of Rab intercepted the three around 3:00am when they were crossing a check post set up on Payra-Noapara road on a motorcycle, said Lt Col Jahid Hasan, commanding officer of Rab-6.
Sensing danger, the trio opened fire at the elite force members, forcing the team to fire back that triggered a “gunfight”, the rab official said.
The three alleged criminals were hit by bullets during the “gun battle”.
They were taken Abhaynagar upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead, said the Rab official.
Two Rab members — Jewel and Sayem — were injured in the alleged gunfight.
The Rab team also recovered 400 bottles of Phensidyl, two pistols, five bullets, one Chinese machete and one magazine from the spot, added Lt Col Jahid Hasan.
In Mymensingh, a murder accused was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Atharobari area of Ishwarganj upazila, our district correspondent quoting police.
Deceased Emon was son of Nurul Islam and a resident of Bonwa village in Nandail upazila, said Qamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station.
The OC said a team of Nandail police arrested Emon in connection with a case filed for killing an auto-rickshaw driver Rana on May 17.
The police team conducted a drive around 2:30am along with Emon for arresting other accused in the case, said the OC.
Emon’s associates opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate that triggered the “gunfight”.
Emon suffered bullet on his chest during the “gun battle”, the OC said.
Later, he was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he added.
