Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood on Sunday said two mobile operators are eager to obtain Fourth Generation (4G) mobile phone services license. But he did not disclose the names of the operators.

“Two mobile operators are showing eagerness for getting 4G license and we primarily discussed with them,” Shahjahan Mahmood told UNB.

After getting final proposal from the operators, we can and must disclose their names, he added.

There are four mobile operators in Bangladesh following Robi merging with Airtel.

BTRC chairman said the interested operators can apply for the 4G spectrum allocations till January 14 and the auction will be held on February 13.

On November 29 last, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the revised guidelines for the 4G network.

Some 23 proposals were raised by the country’s mobile phone companies about the guidelines.

According to the BRTC there are at least 14 crore subscribers Identity Module (SIM) cards user in the country and among them almost 8 crore are using internet.
