Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk:Ruling Awami League nominated mayoral candidate in the upcoming Rajshahi City Corporation elections AHM Khairuzzaman Liton today expressed optimism that he will win by a big margin in the polls slated to be held on July 30.
“People from all walks of life are spontaneously supporting Awami League which is evident in the election campaign programs,” Liton said.
Liton said this while talking to reporters at a briefing held at the AL Rajshahi city unit office this morning, reports our Rajshahi correspondent.
The mayoral aspirant also pledged that he will accept the results of the election no matter which party wins.
Asked about the BNP-nominated candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul’s allegations that BNP men are being threatened by police and ruling party men to stay away on the day of election, Liton said that those are just falsehood.
“They (BNP) are not getting their party men to support them due to their internal conflicts and are instead making these false claims to hide their weaknesses,” Liton said.
He also alleged that BNP has resorted to foul tactics by spreading false allegations against him since electioneering began knowing that they would concede defeat in the polls.
“They (BNP) are saying that there is no point in holding the polls as AL has already won, and that the Election Commission does not have the ability to hold fair polls.”
“If they think we would secure win by ballot-rigging ahead of the polls, why are they contesting in the polls instead of going to the court with their allegations?” Liton asked.
“It has been proved that the BNP-Jamaat alliance can never be good for the country. The country is still suffering due to the harm done by them,” he said.
Terming BNP leader Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu as the creator of the notorious militant Bangla Bhai, Liton said he knew that something wrong was going to happen when Dulu came to campaign for Bulbul.
“Our doubts became real when they themselves blasted bombs in their rally just two days after Dulu came to Rajshahi,” he said.
Liton also alleged that the BNP men have been spreading rumour in social media site Facebook claiming that Bulbul, BNP-nominated mayoral aspirant, has been shot.
