Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: A Cumilla court today denied bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in an arson case filed under the Special Powers Act 1974 in 2015.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Biplob Debnath of Fifth Cognisance Court passed the order after Khaleda’s lawyer Kaimul Haque Rinku submitted the petition seeking bail of Khaleda in the case.
The case was filed after eight people were killed and 25-30 others injured when a bus was torched in Chauddagram area of Cumilla on February 2, 2015, during the anti-government agitation.
Public Prosecutor Mustafizur Rahman Liton appeared for the state.
On February 8, Khaleda, accused in over 34 cases, was convicted for five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
