Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Left Democratic Alliance (LDA), a newly formed platform of eight left-leaning parties, today demanded dissolution of the parliament before the declaration of schedule of the upcoming national election.
Demanding polls-time neutral government to oversee the election, several hundred leaders and activists of the platform brought out a procession towards Secretariat, which faced police interception near Jatiya Press Club.
A scuffle took place between the activists and police when they tried to break through police barricade, our correspondent reports from the spot.
Last reported, they were staging demonstration beside the Secretariat.
“Police are controlling everything in the country; there is no sign of democracy. We want dissolution of the parliament before the schedule for the next general election is announced and a neutral polls-time government must be formed,” Md Shah Alam, general secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), said while addressing the demonstration.
“Otherwise, the movement will be tougher in the coming days,” he added.
Their other demands include scrapping of Digital Security Act and recasting of the Election Commission.
Saiful Huq, general secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party and coordinator of the left combine, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) General Secretary Md Shah Alam, Zonayed Saki of Ganasamhati Andolon were, among others, attending the agitation programme.
The LDA was formed on July 18 with the demands of formation of a neutral election-time government and reorganisation of the Election Commission after discussions with all political parties and different groups of people.
