Wednesday will be windy with snow, heavy at times, making travel extremely difficult and dangerous. Rain will be mixed in, mainly across eastern Long Island and the Jersey Shore.
Expect 6″-12″ for most, but locally 12″+ north and west of New York City, and 3″-6″ south and east of the city with more mixing in those areas holding down totals. Early highs in the mid to upper 30s will give way to falling temperatures as the snow becomes heavier. Sustained northeast winds will be 20-35mph, but gusts could be 40-45mph in the city, with 50-55mph gusts across eastern Long Island.
Snow will end Wednesday evening, then it’ll stay windy with mostly cloudy skies overnight and temperatures dropping to around freezing. The wind will shift to north-northwest at 20-35mph, still gusting to 45mph at times.
Thursday will be blustery with intervals of clouds and sunshine. Watch for a stray snow shower well north and west. The high will be around 42.
Morning snow showers on Friday could leave a fresh coating in spots. Otherwise it’ll still be brisk and chilly with clouds and some sun. Highs will stay in the low 40s.
