Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday warned that the party would take disciplinary action against those who are involved in infighting over Dhaka North City Corporation polls nominations.
“Disciplinary action would be taken against any party man if he or she is found involved in nomination infighting,” the senior AL leader said while speaking at a winter-clothes distribution programme on Bangabandhu Avenue’s Awami League Central Office in Dhaka.
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said the Awami League is a very big party and such problems occur regularly in such cases.
“Despite that, we are united under the leadership of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina,” he added.
He said the Awami League President intervenes in case of failure of solving any major problem over intra-party feud in the Awami League.
“There was no instance that a wrongdoer went unpunished in the party. We are taking administrative and organizational action in this regard,” the AL general secretary added.
Referring to upcoming DNCC election for mayoral post, he said the AL nomination board will finalize its candidate after the meeting presided over by party president Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Quader was very critical of BNP candidature for the DSCC mayoral post.
“There is no democratic practice in the BNP. Father (Abdul Awal Mintoo) has announced his son’s name (Tabith Mohammed Awal) as a mayoral candidate. Tabith’s name appeared in Paradise Papaers,” he said.
Dhaka city unit of AL President Abul Hasnat presided over the programme while AL relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Dhaka city south unit general secretary Shahe Alam Murad, vice-president Nurul Amin Ruhul, organizing secretaries – Hedayetul Islam Swapon, Golam Ashraf Talukdar and Kazi Morshed Kamal, and publicity and publication secretary M Akhter Hossain, among others, spoke there.
