Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Afghanistan created history after defeating Ireland by 7 wickets to script maiden Test win in the ongoing one-off Test played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun on Monday. Incidentally, Afghanistan is now the only international side in the world that has a win% of 50 or more in all three formats of the game. Afghanistan attained their first Test win in only their second ever Test.
For Afghanistan, Rahmat Shah (76) brought up his second half-century of the Test and Ihsanullah Janat scored an unbeaten 65 to put on 139 run partnership for the second wicket to keep Afghanistan on course for a win as they chased down 147 to strip history. Afghanistan cricket team had made Test debut last year when they lost to India inside two days in Bangalore.
Ireland had their moments and were absolutely brilliant in patches.

Spinner Rashid Khan’s five-wicket haul helped Afghanistan bowl out Ireland for 288 and put the team in sight of a maiden Test win on the third day of the one-off Test on Sunday. Meanwhile, Irish cricketer Tim Murtagh created history and entered his name in the record books by becoming the first number 11 batsman to make 25-plus scores in each innings of a Test match.
“Happy. It’s a historic day for Afghanistan, for our team and our people,” said Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan. “We have been playing for a while, we have been playing first-class cricket, so we have that composure. The bowlers were very good, Rashid, Yamin. Now we’re going to South Africa for World Cup preparation. We will try out best to play good cricket.”
