Bangladesh opposition leader BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take the coronavirus vaccine first to ease the fear of people.
“My proposal, Prime Minister (Sheikh Hasina) you take the first vaccine. Then tell people there is nothing to fear. Only then peoples’ confidence will be return,” said Fakhrul while addressing at a programme in Dhaka on Sunday.
Nagorik Oikya arranged a discussion at National Press Club in Dhaka at noon to mark the historic Mass Upsurge Day.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The main goal of the government with corona incentive money was to fill pockets. The government is doing the same thing with the vaccine that the government did with the coronavirus test.”
About coronavirus vaccine, Fakhrul further said, “The government is playing tricks with peoples’ lives. The main goal of the government is to loot and corrupt.”
Terming the government as ‘unelected’ one, the BNP secretary general said, “Now the main crisis is that an unelected government is in power and it is cheating people without accountability. Using the state apparatus they have made the state partisan. People are depriving of rights.”
The country needs a representative government that will come to power and establish the rights of the people, said Fakhrul adding that “We have to unite and force the present government to step down through mass uprising.”
Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and Trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Nagarik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Kallyan Party chairman Major General (Retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, among others, addressed the programme.❐
