Four people including a former army official collected nomination forms from Awami League today seeking the party’s ticket to contest the Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral by-election scheduled for February 26.
With the four, a total of 12 people– five businessmen, three teachers, a poet, a former army official, one former central working committee member of Awami League and a former ward councilor have so far collected the nomination papers seeking the party’s ticket.
Advocate Mamtaj Uddin Mehedi, former central working committee member of the ruling Awami League, Shamim Hasan, a former ward councilor, Maj Gen (retd) Iad Ali Fakir, and Businessman Abed Mansur today collected the nomination papers.
Yesterday, Atiqul Islam, former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (FBCCI), HBM Iqbal, chairman of Premier Bank Ltd, Adam Tamizi Haque, managing director of Haque Group of Industries, Helal Uddin, a director of the FBCCI collected the nomination papers.
Apart from this, three teachers who collected the forms are Jobaer Alam, a Dhaka University teacher and also the editor and publisher of Bangladesh Today, Forhad Hossain, principal of Monipur High School and College, Shah Alam, a former principal of a college in Dhaka and a poet named Rasel Asheki bought the AL nomination forms.
In a meeting on next Tuesday, Awami League’s Local Government Nomination Board will finalise the party’s candidate for the DNCC by-polls in the mayoral post.
