DNCC polls: Atiqul given AL ticket

Atiqul Islam, former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has been given Awami League’s ticket to contest the mayoral race in Dhaka North City Corporation by-polls scheduled for February 26.

Awami League Local Government Nomination Board nominated Atiqul Islam as mayoral runner in the DNCC polls this evening through a meeting at the Gonobhaban with Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

After the meeting, Awami League General Secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced the name while addressing a press conference there.

As many as 16 mayor hopefuls collected nomination forms from the ruling Awami League while five aspirants from the BNP to get party tickets for contesting the by-polls.

Last night, BNP executive committee member Tabith Awal won the party ticket for mayoral post of the DNCC by-polls.
