Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda today expressed disagreement with what Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar yesterday said over the level-playing field ahead of the December 30 national election.
“Mahbub Talukdar did not speak the truth. The overall electoral situation is good,” Huda told journalist after a view exchange meeting in Rangamati on the law and order situation of the three hill districts, reports the daily Prothom Alo.
Yesterday, Mahbub Talukdar said a level playing field for the December 30 polls was still absent and that the situation might improve after the deployment of armed forces.
“I simply don’t think there is any level playing field. The words ‘level playing field’ have become meaningless,” Mahbub said while replying to reporters’ queries at his office.
Responding to a query in this regard, the CEC said all are engaged in carrying out electioneering according to their wills. “Then where is the problem in terms of the level playing field?” he questioned.
“Army will be deployed at all polling centres. There is no risk in holding of the election in the hill districts,” the CEC said.
The CEC also directed all the people, who will engage in election works, not to be influenced by any group or candidate.
“Every voter will be able to return home after exercise their voting rights safely,” the CEC gave the assurance during the meeting.
