Progressive Democratic Party chairman and a former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union Ferdous Ahmed Qureishi died on Monday. He was 79.
Progressive Democratic Party Secretary General Principal MA Hossain told New Age that Qureishi was suffering from different health complications for one year.
He said that the former editor of Daily Desh Bangla Qureishi breathed his last at about 3:00pm at his house in Dhaka Cantonment.
Qureishi was the DUCSU vice-president in 1961.
He was also the president of Pakistan Chhatra League in the 60s.
The then student leader had also played important roles in the Six-Point Movement, Eleven Points Programme and the mass uprising in 1969.
Qureishi was also the first joint secretary general of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
During the caretaker government regime in 2007, Qureishi formed the Progressive Democratic Party. He was the chairman of the party.
He later joined Jatiya Jukta Front, an alliance of political parties to compete in the 2008 parliamentary elections.❐
