Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain has unveiled a new political alliance ‘Jatiya Oikya Front’ with BNP and two other parties, excluding Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury-led Jukto Front.

Apart from the Gono Forum and BNP, other components of the newly introduced alliance are ASM Abdur Rob-led Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and Mahmudur Rahman Manna-led Nagorik Oikya.

Kamal, also presidet of the Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, announced the new alliance at a press conference held at the National Press Club in Dhaka this evening.

Kamal said the new alliance was formed for the greater interest of the country’s crores of people.

“We have to no adequate time to waste. We will have to take the Jatiya Oikya Front at district level across the country immediately,” Kamal said.

The newly floated alliance started its journey with a vow to force the ruling quarter to resign from the state power before the announcement of the schedule of the upcoming general election, he said.

An all-party acceptable election-time government will have to be formed after the dissolution of the current parliament, Kamal said in the press conference.

He also demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

During the press conference, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna announced seven-point demands and 11-point goals of the newly formed political alliance ahead of the upcoming general election slated to be held at the end of December.

“We have been hatching efforts to form such national unity and at last, we became successful today,” Manna said.

Earlier in the day, a meeting was scheduled to be held at the residence of Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain, but was cancelled.

Jukro Front leader Mahmudur Rahman Manna confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

Manna said Gono Forum Secretary Mostofa Mohsin Mintu informed him over the phone that Dr Kamal cancelled the meeting of “greater national unity” without any clarification.

On September 22, several top BNP leaders shared a rally stage with Dr Kamal and Badruddoza and extended their support to Jatiya Oikya Prokriya’s three-point demand, including formation of a polls-time neutral government.
