Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Independent candidate of Tangail-4, Abdul Latif Siddique is protesting in a unique way to draw attention of the local election officer over the attack on his motorcade.
The former Awami League minister and veteran politician has put up a tent on the porch of the returning officer and is sleeping in it; drawing a big crowd of onlookers.
Our local correspondent reports, he has been lying in his tent, under a blanket, since 9:00pm; announcing he would not budge unless the attackers are arrested.
He is also pressing for the withdrawal Kalihati Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Mir Mossharraf Hossain over the latter’s role throughout the course of the attack.
Latif Siddique’s motorcade reportedly came under attack in Kalihati upazila today.
Latif Siddiqui alleged that a group of 20 to 25 supporters of AL candidate for constituency Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hazari attacked them and hurled brick chips when he along with his supporters was conducting polls campaign in Gohaliabari area around 12noon.
Four vehicles, including the car of Latif Siddiqui, were vandalised and 10 of his supporters were injured in the attack, the former minster told journalists. Latif, however, escaped unhurt.
Protesting the attack, Latif Siddiqui and his supporters has been staging demonstration in front of the office of returning officer in Tangail since 2:15pm.
RO Md Shaidul Islam, deputy commissioner in Tangail, and Superintendent of Police Sanjit Kumar Roy came to the spot at 3:30pm and assured him of taking necessary action.
The RO also asked Latif Siddiqui to lodge a written complaint in this regard.
