Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Mohammad Mithun’s handy 91 and Sabbir Rahman’s late blows took Tigers to victory in the warm-up match against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI at the P Sara Oval today.
Mithun and Mahmudullah Riyad starred in a 96-run partnership for the fourth wicket before Mahmudullah departed after a 37-ball 33. Mithun then missed out on his ton as he fell in the 46th over of the chase with Bangladesh needing 21 for victory. Sabbir Rahman (27) and Mosaddek Hossain (10) took Tigers to a five-wicket win with 11 deliveries to spare. Earlier Mushfiqur Rahim contributed to the Tigers’ cause with a 46-ball 50 after the Sri Lanka Board President’s XI posted 282 for eight.
Bangladesh 200/3 * (35/50 ov, target 283)
Mohammad Mithun struck a fifty as Tigers crossed the 200-run mark in their chase of Sri Lanka Board President’s XI 282 in the warm-up match at P Sara Oval today. Mithun was unbeaten on 64 off 69 deliveries while Mahmudullah Riyad is batting on 23 off 24 deliveries as Tigers crossed 200 mark in 35 overs.
The fourth wicket partnership currently stands at 69 runs.
Bangladesh 152/3 * (27.4/50 ov, target 283)
Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar started the chase of 283-run target solidly before both openers were removed by right-arm pacer Lahiru Kumara. Soumya fell after a 24-ball 13 in the 10th over and Tamim followed him to the dressing room in the 14th over after a 47-ball 37. Following the departure of both openers, Mohammad Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim held things steady with a 73-run partnership for the third wicket. Mushfiqur fell in the final delivery of the 25th over after a 46-ball fifty with Bangladesh on 131 for three.
Mithun is unbeaten currently on 35 and Mahmudullah Riyad has joined him at the crease.
Bangladesh are playing their only warm-up match in their tour of Sri Lanka against the Sri Lanka Board President’s XI at the P Sara Oval today. The Tigers’ bowlers started brightly but there was some wayward bowling at the end which ensured a formidable total for the hosts.
Sri Lanka Board President’s XI recovered from early loss of wickets to post a challenging 282-8 against Bangladesh in the in the only warm-up match at the P Sara Oval in Colombo today.
Pacers Rubel Hossain and Taskin Ahmed had reduced the hosts to 32 for three inside eight overs, but a patient fifty from Shehan Jayasuriya and a late blitz from Dasun Shanaka took SLBP XI to 282 in 50 overs.
Jayasuriya scored 56 of 78 deliveries while Shanaka remained unbeaten for a 63-ball 86. Seven of the eight wickets to fall went to the pacers while the other dismissal came in the form of a run-out.
Rubel Hossain took two wickets for 31 runs in seven overs while Soumya Sarkar took two for 29. Taskin, Mustafizur Rahman and Farhad Reza took one wicket each.
None of the Bangladesh spinners managed to get a wicket. Mahmudullah Riyad, who could not bowl a single delivery during the World Cup, bowled three overs today, going for 15 runs.
This is the only warm-up match before the ODI series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The three matches will be played on July 26, 28 and 31 in Colombo.
