NEW YORK: The New York Police Department said in its tweet that it was responding to reports of an explosion of unknown origin in the popular locality of midtown Manhattan at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue.
“The A, C and E line are being evacuated at this time. Info is preliminary, more when available,” the tweet further read.
The explosion was reportedly near the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
There are reports of a man being taken into custody in connection to the blast.
The incident reportedly took place early on Monday at the Port Authority Bus Terminal near Times Square, BBC reported.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said President Donald Trump has been briefed on the incident.
ABC News quoted police sources as saying that a possible pipe bomb was detonated in a passageway below ground at the terminal.
