Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: There is no alternative to free and fair elections to ensure changeover in power through a constitutional manner, Jatiya Oikya Prokriya Convener Dr Kamal Hossain said today.
“A free and fair election is only the way to ensure smooth changeover of power and we have to pursue our movement to this purpose,” he said at a human chain in Dhaka.
Speaking at the programme in front of the National Press Club, Kamal Hossain, also president of Gono Forum, said the country is not the property of any person, family or political party; rather people are the sole owner of the country.
“We will be deprived of the ownership if the forthcoming general election is not held in a free and fair manner,” the eminent jurist said.
“Thousands of fictitious cases are being lodged against leaders and activists of the opposition political parties. And thus, we will have to strengthen our movement,” he said.
Citing several misdeeds and mismanagement of the ruling Awami League, Kamal Hossain said thousands of crores of money are being looted and trafficked abroad without creating job opportunities and setting up new mills and factories in the country.
“It means the pledges of the Liberation War are not being upheld. And thus, we the countrymen will have to bring a change in power collectively,” he added.
