Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker of the Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today submitted nomination papers to contest the 11th general election from Rangpur-6 constituency.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury first submitted Sheikh Hasina’s nomination paper to MA Momin, Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer also assistant returning officer of the constituency, around 12:30pm.
Later, she also submitted her own nomination paper to contest the election from the same constituency.
After submitting the nomination papers, Shirin Sharmin said, “I have no any personal issue in this regard. The party will decide who would contest the election from here.”
Claiming that the party’s decision is the final one, she further said Sheikh Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, would decide who will contest from the constituency.
Sheikh Hasina was elected from the constituency in the January 5, 2014 election and later the seat was vacated. Then, Shirin Sharmin was elected unopposed in a by-election from the constituency.
Earlier, Shirin Sharmin became lawmaker to a seat reserved for women in the immediate past parliament.
She was state minister for women and children affairs in Hasina’s previous government.
