The militant group Islamic State-inspired outfit Neo JMB members are plotting to carry out killings, sabotage and destructive activities in Bangladesh.
Upon receiving such advance information, all the units of police have been alerted through sending letters from the Police Headquarters.
The Police Headquarters has instructed its various units to remain cautious about the Islamic State-inspired outfit and take necessary measures to prevent subversive acts.
The so-called IS has decided to announce formation of a new wing ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha. Analysing data on militant activities at home and abroad, it was found that such a declaration is made through a subversive act, the PHQ said in its instructions.
Sohel Rana, additional inspector general (media) at the PHQ, said militancy activities in the country is under control. But we always take some preventive measures whenever there is any global development. In the past, militant outfits were found active ahead of any festival. So, we have stepped up security measures ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and month of August, he said.
Letters signed by AIG (Operation) Tariqul Islam asked the special units, including the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) to be on alert.
According to intelligence, ‘Neo JMB’ may choose embassies, religious institutions or police establishments as their targets.❑
